GB

How Google counts it

The parts that surprise people.

15 GB, shared three ways

A free Google account gets 15 GB in total. Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos all draw from the same pool.

Trash still counts

Deleted email keeps taking space until Trash is emptied. Gmail does that on its own after 30 days, or you can empty it now. Spam works the same way.

Full means bounced

Once you're out of space, Gmail can't send or receive email. People who write to you get their message sent back.

Questions

Does this page see my Google account?

No. You type the numbers in yourself, and they are saved in this browser only. There is no sign-in and nothing is sent anywhere.

I deleted a lot and the number didn't move.

Check Trash: deleted email still counts until Trash is emptied. Google can also take up to a day to update the total.

Do files people share with me count?

No. Only files you own count against your storage. A file someone else shared with you counts against theirs.

Where do I find my numbers?

On Google's storage page (one.google.com/storage), signed in to the account you want to check. It shows the total and how much Gmail, Drive and Photos each use.
