Amazon's deal and recommendation emails pile up fast, and most people want two fixes: no more of them, and the backlog gone from Gmail. Amazon's own settings handle the first part. Gmail can also send an unsubscribe for you. Neither one touches the mail you already have. Below is each route, with Amazon's steps taken from its public help center in October 2026.

## Turn off marketing email in Amazon's Communication preferences

Amazon's help center covers this in a page called [Unsubscribe from Amazon Marketing](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GJAW9SFGM8XTS89H) (checked October 2026). It says the Communications Preference Center is where you stop Amazon "from sending you marketing emails and direct mail." The steps, as Amazon lists them:

1. Go to the Communications Preference Center. The help page links straight to it at `amazon.com/gp/cpc/homepage`, and Amazon's [Manage Your Personal Information](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GW8M2CA96DDRRD7F) page lists Communication preferences among the things you manage in Your Account.
2. In the General Settings category, expand the Email subcategory. The option is labeled "Do not send me any marketing email for now," and Amazon's instruction reads: "expand the Email subcategory and uncheck, Do not send me any marketing email for now."
3. Select Save changes.
4. To stop marketing by mail too, expand the Mail category and uncheck "Get occasional marketing about products, services, deals, and recommendations in the mail."
5. Select Save changes again.

The preference center sits behind your Amazon sign-in, so we haven't pictured it here. Step 2 reads oddly next to that label, so don't get hung up on check versus uncheck. What you want saved at the end is no marketing email.

### What about the Amazon app?

Amazon's help center only describes the email switch on the website. The app has a Notifications menu (Your Account, the person icon, then Settings, the cog, then Notifications), and Amazon's [push notification help](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=TEGsldIw9cwtEh8Uzv) uses it for push alerts such as Account and shipping. Amazon's [Privacy Notice](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GX7NJQ4ZB8MHFRNJ) (last updated June 30, 2026) draws the same line: for email and other communications, adjust your Customer Communication Preferences; for in-app notifications, use the settings in the app or on your device. So to stop the emails, sign in to amazon.com in a browser.

We also looked for an Amazon help page about the unsubscribe link at the bottom of its emails and didn't find one. Every route Amazon documents runs through the Communications Preference Center. If Gmail shows an Unsubscribe link next to Amazon's name on a promo, that works too (more on it below).

## Which Amazon emails have their own settings?

The marketing switch isn't the only one. The note at the bottom of Amazon's unsubscribe page says you manage "subscription emails, and emails about programs you are enrolled in" separately, in Your Email Subscriptions. Amazon's page [Change Your Subscription Email Preferences](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GXSTUM6E6RZDAQRY) lists the separate places:

| Kind of Amazon email | Where Amazon says to change it |
|---|---|
| Deals, product recommendations, new releases | Communication Preferences Center |
| Prime membership | Your Amazon Prime Membership |
| Subscribe & Save | Your Subscribe & Save Items |
| Subscription and program emails | Your Email Subscriptions (Amazon Delivers) |
| Unsolicited messages from third-party sellers | Promotional email settings under Email Preferences |

That last row comes from Amazon's help page on the [Buyer-Seller Messaging Service](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=TOoosGgv65coxU0iYQ), which says you can opt out of unsolicited seller messages by updating your promotional email settings.

![Amazon's help page Change Your Subscription Email Preferences, linking to Amazon Prime Membership, Subscribe and Save Items, the Communication Preferences Center and Amazon Delivers Email Subscriptions, with a line saying new preferences may take 1 to 5 business days to take effect](https://getgnuke.com/images/articles/unsubscribe-from-amazon-emails/amazon-subscription-email-preferences-help.webp)

On timing, Amazon gives a number: that same page says "it may take 1-5 business days for your new preferences to take effect." Google's [2023 announcement of its sender rules](https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmail-security-authentication-spam-protection/) separately requires anyone sending 5,000 or more messages a day to Gmail to honor unsubscribe requests within two days. If promos are still arriving a week after you saved, go back to the preference center and check the change stuck.

Shipping alerts are their own thing too. None of the Amazon help pages we read offers a switch for order confirmation or shipping emails. What Amazon does document is narrower: you can turn off [Shipment Updates via Text](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GWNBL29L27SLHKNV) for one package once it has shipped, from Track your package in Your Orders, and you can reply STOP to texts from delivery drivers.

## Gmail's Unsubscribe and Manage subscriptions

Gmail gives you two more ways to stop new Amazon mail without opening your Amazon account. Many marketing emails show an Unsubscribe link next to the sender's name at the top of the message. And Manage subscriptions (in the left menu under More on the web, or the top-left menu in the phone app) lists the senders that mail you most, with an Unsubscribe button for each. Google's [help page](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/15621070) covers it, and our guide to [unsubscribing in bulk in Gmail](/articles/unsubscribe-in-bulk-gmail) walks through it.

Both stop new mail, and neither deletes anything. Every Amazon email you already have stays in your inbox until you delete it. For how Manage subscriptions compares with a tool that clears the backlog too, see [Gnuke vs Gmail's Manage subscriptions](/compare/gnuke-vs-gmail-manage-subscriptions).

## Clear out the Amazon email already in Gmail

No unsubscribe link does this part. You can do it by hand: search Gmail for the Amazon sender with `from:`, select every matching conversation, and delete them, as our guide to [deleting all emails from one sender](/articles/delete-all-emails-from-one-sender-gmail) shows step by step.

Or do both jobs in one click. Gnuke is a Chrome extension that adds a bomb button to Gmail. Click it on an Amazon promo and Gnuke unsubscribes you in the best way the sender supports: the standard one-click request if it's there, otherwise an unsubscribe email from your own address, otherwise it opens the sender's unsubscribe page for you. In the same click, every email from that sender moves to Gmail's Trash.

![Gnuke's receipt for one click on Deal Drop: unsubscribe done, 412 past emails to Trash, starred mail kept, Undo for 30 days, and Block for senders still emailing you](https://getgnuke.com/images/articles/delete-all-emails-from-one-sender-gmail/gnuke-one-click-receipt.webp)
*What one click does, as Gnuke's homepage lays it out.*

With Amazon, you'll want to hold on to some receipts for returns and warranties. Starred mail always stays, so star the order confirmations you might need before you click. You can also keep the sender's newest 1, 3 or 10 emails, mail in a label, or mail marked important. Undo brings everything back for 30 days, and Gnuke never deletes anything permanently. See [how it works](/#how).

**Clear a sender's whole history in one click** Gnuke opens to everyone soon: [get one email the day it does](https://getgnuke.com/#get).

If Amazon keeps sending promos more than 3 days after you unsubscribed, Gnuke's "Still emailing you" list flags the sender and offers a one-click Block, a Gmail filter that sends future mail from that sender straight to Trash. For a bigger cleanup, [Clean up](/#cleanup) ranks all your newsletter and promo senders so you can tick Amazon alongside the rest and nuke them together. On your phone, the Gnuke phone app at app.getgnuke.com does the same thing straight to Gmail.

Gnuke works from your own browser or phone, and [no Gnuke server sees your mail](/privacy). Ten nukes a month are free; Unlimited is $29.99 a year or $4.99 a month (see [pricing](/#pricing)).

## Which way to stop Amazon emails?

If you shop on Amazon regularly, the Communications Preference Center is the most complete fix, since Amazon's help center points marketing email, marketing by mail and unsolicited seller messages there. Give it 1 to 5 business days. Subscription and program emails need a visit to Your Email Subscriptions as well. Gmail's Unsubscribe or Manage subscriptions will stop new mail if you'd rather not sign in. None of these empties your inbox. Gnuke stops the promos and clears the old Amazon email in the same click, while your starred receipts stay put.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I stop Amazon marketing emails?

Sign in at amazon.com, go to Your Account, then Communication preferences (the Communications Preference Center). Under General Settings, expand Email, find the option Do not send me any marketing email for now, and select Save changes. Those steps come from Amazon's help page Unsubscribe from Amazon Marketing, checked October 2026.

### How long does it take for Amazon to stop sending emails?

Amazon's help page on subscription email preferences says it may take 1 to 5 business days for new preferences to take effect.

### Why do I still get Amazon emails after unsubscribing?

The marketing switch covers marketing email and direct mail. Amazon's help center says subscription emails and emails about programs you're enrolled in are managed separately, in Your Email Subscriptions, and Prime and Subscribe & Save have their own preference pages. New settings can also take 1 to 5 business days to apply.

### Can I turn off Amazon emails in the Amazon app?

Amazon's help center describes the email switch only on the website, in the Communications Preference Center. The Notifications menu in the app (Your Account, then Settings, then Notifications) is where Amazon's help points for push notifications, such as Account and shipping alerts.

### How do I stop emails from Amazon third-party sellers?

Amazon's help page on the Buyer-Seller Messaging Service says you can opt out of unsolicited messages from third-party sellers by updating your promotional email settings under Email Preferences.

### How do I stop Amazon shipment texts?

Amazon lets you turn off Shipment Updates via Text for a specific package once it has shipped: go to Your Orders, select Track your package, and you'll find the option there. You may still get a text that was already on its way. To stop texts from delivery drivers, Amazon says to reply STOP.

### Does unsubscribing from Amazon delete the emails I already have?

No. Opting out only stops future marketing mail. Every Amazon email already in Gmail stays until you delete it. Gnuke unsubscribes you and moves every email from that sender to Gmail's Trash in one click, with Undo for 30 days. Star any order emails you want to keep first; starred mail always stays.
